Hand-crank fertilizer spreader with red hopper

Shop fertilizer spreaders for applying compatible granular fertilizer, lawn-care products, seed, and other labeled dry materials. Compare handheld, bag, chest-mounted, broadcast, and push designs by capacity, spread pattern, adjustment range, and area size.

Choose a Fertilizer Spreader

  • Handheld spreaders: Portable options for small lawns, beds, paths, and spot applications.
  • Bag and chest-mounted spreaders: Carry material while the operator walks irregular or larger areas.
  • Broadcast spreaders: Distribute material over a wider path for efficient lawn and open-ground coverage.
  • Drop spreaders: When available, release material in a narrower band for defined edges and controlled placement.

Confirm that the spreader is compatible with the particle size and material you plan to use. Fertilizer, seed, and pelleted products can flow differently through the same equipment.

Calibrate for the Application Rate

Use the product label's application rate and the spreader's calibration guidance. Test a measured amount over a known area before treating the full site. Walking speed, gate setting, particle size, and overlap all affect output and can contribute to uneven application.

For broadcast application, use consistent passes and avoid excessive overlap at turns and edges. A handheld spreader or smaller tool may provide more control in narrow spaces.

Cleaning and Storage

Empty the hopper and remove residue after use. Fertilizer salts can attract moisture and corrode equipment, so follow the spreader instructions for cleaning, lubrication, and dry storage.
