Allstar Strawberry Plants by the Box (1500)

"Garden's Sweetest Treasure"

(Fragaria × ananassa 'Allstar') is a cultivar renowned for its exceptional fruit quality and suitability for cultivation in home gardens. Characterized by large, heart-shaped, glossy red berries, this hybrid strawberry variety captivates both the eye and palate. It represents a popular choice among horticultural enthusiasts and commercial growers.

The Allstar Strawberry is a June-bearing variety. Its robust, dark green foliage and vigorous growth habits are notable. Thriving in well-draining soil enriched with organic matter, this plant demands exposure to a minimum of six hours of daily sunlight. Optimal spacing and regular maintenance mitigate potential disease risks.

The harvest season typically spans late spring to early summer, presenting gardeners with an abundant yield of sweet, juicy strawberries. To maximize harvest, ripe berries should be gently picked by hand, ensuring the stem remains attached to the fruit. Delicate handling is essential to prevent bruising and maintain fruit quality.

Allstar Strawberries are revered for their superb taste, rendering them ideal for fresh consumption, culinary applications, and preservation methods such as jams and freezing. These attributes, combined with their aesthetic appeal and relative ease of cultivation, establish the Allstar Strawberry as an esteemed choice for discerning growers seeking exceptional fruit quality in their gardens.

Strawberries are extremely adaptable and are grown in every state in the U.S. Plants generally grow 6-8" tall and 12" across, are shallow-rooted, and benefit from mulch such as straw, pine needles, or plastic. Prefer a soil rich in all the basic nutrients with a pH of 6 to 6.5. Susceptible to root rot and must be planted in well-drained soil, with crown set at soil level. Yield under the best of conditions is about one basket per plant per season.

June Bearers generally produce a single large crop in spring to early summer (as early as March in warmer regions) and are prolific producers for 3 to 4 weeks. Pick the blossoms off June bearers the first year to boost production the second year.

Everbearers are not as prolific as June bearers but are especially suitable for growers who wish to harvest a constant supply of berries throughout the summer. Plant some of both to have a large harvest to preserve, and plenty to eat all summer!
