Stick It To 'Em Sticky Insect Traps & BarriersMany insects (including beneficial insects) are attracted to the color yellow and organic growers have been using sticky yellow traps for years in orchards, row crops, vines and greenhouses for pest control. In low-dust environments, these traps are documented to be effective for monitoring or trapping out leafhoppers, whiteflies, aphids, fruit flies, leafminers, flea beetles, fungus gnats, cucumber beetles, etc. As these traps also attract beneficial insects, it is recommended to use them wisely. Blue sticky traps are used for thrips. The traps come in the form of cards or tape. All have a brightly colored surface, coated on both sides with special nondrying sticky glue. You can make your own traps or “renew” commercial traps using the glue products listed in this section. |
