Humble Beginnings in 1976
Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply originated in 1976 on tiny Peaceful Valley Road in Nevada City, California. Nearly 50 years later we are proud to call the beautiful Sierra Foothills our home.
The business started in a small garage sending out a four-page newsletter to growers. As the operations expanded, we moved down Peaceful Valley Road where we leased a few acres and a smal 12' x 20' shed. Since the business was in a rural area, we were able to have a greenhouse and grow nursery plants to sell to local customers.
We Grow As Organic Farming & Gardening Grows
In 1985, the first year a complete catalog was published, Peaceful Valley burned down and many of the records, information and inventory were lost. A larger building was then rebuilt, mainly through the help of our friends and dedicated customers. When the business started to grow in popularity, the tiny, private Peaceful Valley Road got so congested that Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply employees had to meet customers at the end of the road, 1/4 mile away, to help alleviate the volume of traffic.
Since the 1980s, Peaceful Valley moved several times within Nevada County to accommodate business growth under the ownership and leadership of Amigo Bob Cantisano, Mark & Kathleen Fenton, and Eric & Pattie Boudier.
We moved into our current location at 125 Clydesdale Court in 2005, converting a former Budweiser distribution facility to our warehouse, store, nursery and office space.
Bill & Jill Hageman acquired Peaceful Valley in 2020 building on a proud legacy of family ownership.
In 2022, we opened our second location in Albany, Oregon. Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley this facility serves as a retail garden center as well as our regional hub for farmer and commercial customers in the Pacific Northwest.
We enjoy educating new gardeners, helping new farms begin their journey and look forward to celebrating the first 50 years of Peaceful Valley in 2026.

Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply is the largest independent U.S. retailer focused on organic farm & gardening supply. Operating from the Sierra Foothills and online through GrowOrganic.com. We offer everything from organic, non-GMO vegetable seeds to fertilizer, weed & pest control, tools, growing supplies, irrigation & more.
We are proud to carry our own brands of Peaceful Valley products as well as partnering with dozens of high quality manufacturers in North America and Europe.
We remain dedicated to preserving the earth and its environment by providing farmers and gardeners with cost-effective, state-of-the-art organic growing supplies, and the information and tools needed to apply them. Peaceful Valley also looks to source its vegetables, fruits and other seasonal products from small and local farms as a critical part of our agricultural ecosystem.
