Planting, Growing & Harvesting Garlic Seed
Growing garlic makes it possible to enjoy unusual, hard-to-find hardneck garlic and softneck garlic varieties.
Softneck Garlic is familiar to most as the type of garlic you are most likely to find in a supermarket. They have braidable necks, stores/keeps longer than hardnecks, and tends to have a more subtle flavor than hardneck garlics.
Hardneck Garlic, on the other hand, tends to have more dramatic and distinct flavors, is easy to peel, and has generally bigger cloves.
Elephant Garlic is not quite garlic, being a member of the leek family, but it tastes like it, has huge cloves (up to 5" across!), and keeps well.
Shallots home grown in your garden provide a vital but subtle culinary ingredient and cost a fraction of store prices. Shallot seed can be hard to come by, especially certified organic shallots, but you'll find them here.
